Casino opened for business in New Orleans

Pinnacle Entertainment reopened the first casino in New Orleans. The Las Vegas company lost a total of three casinos due to Hurricane Katrina. Pinnacle plans to rebuild its casino in Biloxi but the gaming company is having problems with the Westport insurance company. The insurance company claims that damage was a flood occurrence and was not due to the hurricane.

If the damage was caused by a weather disaster, Pinnacle is entitled to $400 million. But Westport claims that the gaming company is only allowed to receive $25 million. Other casino operators such as MGM Mirage, Boyd Gaming Corporation and Harrah’s Entertainment also had casinos in the gulf. These companies are entirely covered by their insurance companies and will receive money for the damages.
